Position Overview

The Social Work - Research Cent re (Edmonton) in the Faculty of Social Work invites applications for a Research Assistant . This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 5 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This Recurring Part-time position is situated in Edmonton and will report to Dr. Janki Shankar, PI with the Research Project "Immigrant Employees" Perspective on Occupational Safety, Work Conditions and their Return-to-Work Experiences after Occupational Injury. This position does not require shift work or working in stressful or dangerous conditions. The research assistant will work in a team environment that includes two community partners in Edmonton and four members of the research team. This position will work until the end of April 2018 and will work maximum of 10 hours per week.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Assist the Principle Investigator and research team members with recruitment of research participants by liaising with community partners and disseminating information through social media like Facebook
  • Interview research participants
  • Transcribe research interviews
  • Assist the researcher with analysis using Atlasti
  • Assist the research team with gathering data for preparation of reports and manuscripts

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Social Work in a related field of Health or Social Sciences is required along with minimum 2 years experience in face-to-face interviewing of community members
  • Strong understanding of qualitative research and written communication and work is required
  • Knowledge of qualitative software like NVivo or Atlasi is an asset
