Position Overview

The Department of Paediatrics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for 4 Casual Research Nurses. This casual position position is for approximately 10 days in October 2017 and 6 weeks in the Spring of 2018. 

The ACHIEVE Research Team at the Alberta Children's Hospital is looking for four casual nurses for a project from October 10-20, 2017, and in the spring of 2018 (6 weeks). The suitable candidates must be comfortable collecting NP swabs. This October, the team will be enrolling up to 700 adults, aged 65 and older, who are residents in ISFL (Integrated Supportive & Facility Living) facilities in the Calgary Zone. We plan to collect NP swabs from adults at the same time that they are receiving their annual influenza vaccine and the study team will be going to the facilities with the Public Health teams who are providing influenza vaccine.

Must be able to travel to various ISFL centres in Calgary. 

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Collect NP swabs from adults
  • Drop off NP swab samples at Calgary Laboratory Services
  • Demonstration of strong communication and team building skills with other team members
  • Obtain patient or caregiver consent to participation
  • Enroll patients into the study
  • Other duties may be required as per the coordinating study needs

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Must have experience collecting NP swabs
  • Experience in Public Health an asset
  • 3-5 years of related experience
  • Knowledge of informed consent required
  • Exceptional organizational skills would be an asset
  • Computer database experience would be an asset
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice required
