Position Overview

HR Services  within Human Resources is currently seeking a Full-time Regular HR Analyst.

Reporting to the Director, HR Services (HRS), the HR Analyst supports the HRS team with reporting, data and research requests.  The role requires familiarity and understanding with all HR processes and workflows, as well as, working with large amounts of HR data and collaborating with leadership to help them make informed decisions.

This position is responsible for:

  • compiling, structuring, and analyzing HR data to make conclusions that help streamline processes.
  • working with data and gathering insights that drive decisions.
  • preparing and delivering reports, solutions and presentations in a meaningful way that includes detailed analysis of data and statistics for trends and patterns.
  • designing custom, adhoc, and/or running configured, reports in PeopleSoft.
  • ensuring data integrity and proactively validating data.
  • conducting research on a variety of topics, as required and compiling findings.
  • ensuring team is updated on the status or queries, issues, and concerns by collecting relevant information as necessary.
  • recognize and suggest milestones and benchmarks for key performance metrics.

The HRS team provides guidance and support on all HR-related matters to Faculty/Unit stakeholders while adhering to and promoting the University's policies, practices and programs, and ensuring compliance with relevant collective agreements and legislation.The HR Analyst will work in the background to support HR programs/initiatives, goals and multiple Partner portfolios that include all employee/staffing groups. 

The HR Analyst provides data analytic support on a wide range of HR programs/functions which may include HRS, Employee and Labour Relations, Workplace Wellness (Disability Management), Talent Management (Attraction and Retention, Organizational Effectiveness, Learning and Development) and Total Rewards (Compensation and Recognition, Workforce Planning and Analytics) for all employee groups.

This position makes recommendations regarding the development of policies, processes and systems that would realize efficiencies and increase the level of the support HR Services is able to provide.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Gather requirements to identify appropriate data and design reports/dashboards to meet HR Services specific business needs to support clients
  • Collect, analyze, and integrate HR data from a variety of internal and external data sources, to develop reports which support the requirements of the HR Services team
  • Develop ad hoc reports (e.g. absenteeism, turnover rates, etc.), and provide recommendations on actions and next steps to the HR Services team based on the analysis
  • Summarize, analyze, and translate report data into organized and useable content to support the development of solutions to client problems
  • Design and develop reports, dashboards, presentations, and other visual management tools which provides trends and insights
  • Play a key role in supporting HR initiatives, such as reorganizations, by retrieving and formatting essential employee data from Oracle HR etc. 
  • Communicates proactively with HRS leadership and team to ensure they are informed of key and emerging issues identified
  • Supports the HRS team by preparing materials/documents in response to client needs and assisting with formulating responses in all HR areas
  • Provide advisory support to clients, ensuring a consistent approach is used within the portfolio
  • Supports the customer service focus by ensuring all clients and/or inquiries are seamlessly relayed to the appropriate and correct HR staff
  • Builds strong relationships with HR and COE colleagues
  • Supports HRS with collecting, compiling and interpreting data needed for responding to client inquiries while ensuring timely and accurate responses
  • Participates in project work as assigned. Identifies opportunities for project

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • University degree in a related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years related experience in a human resources data analytics role. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Experience with computer systems and software (e.g., MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) and internal HR system (e.g., Oracle HR) to produce correspondence, statistical reports, and data
  • Advanced Excel skills (data presentation, VLOOKUPS, index and match formulas)
  • Experience with HR reporting and analysis and presenting findings in meaningful and actionable format
  • Familiarity using various HRIS systems to navigate extract data, writes report queries etc.; knowledge of Power BI is an asset
  • Understanding of common human resource concepts, practices, procedures, and related employment legislation
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and communicate data
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, work independently, with good organizational skills
  • Detail oriented with high degree of accuracy when working with data and reports
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • CHRP designation or willingness to obtain designation, considered an asset
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement
